About Patdi

Patdi is located in the northern part of Surendranagar district and serves as the headquarters of Patdi Taluka in Saurashtra, Gujarat. This small town is surrounded by agricultural villages and lies close to the Little Rann of Kutch.

Its location between the agricultural areas of Surendranagar district and the saline landscape of the Little Rann gives Patdi an interesting geographical character. This small town functions as a local centre for admin., commerce, education, transportation and services for nearby villages.

The former Patdi State was one of the princely states of the Kathiawar region. The ruling establishment exercised local admin. authority before the integration of princely states into independent India.

The princely period influenced the development of Patdi’s architecture, administration and local traditions. Although the political system has changed completely, the historical identity of Patdi remains an important part of the town’s heritage.
