Do you have to pay taxes on life insurance?

Generally, life insurance proceeds you receive as a beneficiary due to the death of the insured person, aren’t includable in gross income and you don’t have to report them. However, any interest you receive is taxable and you should report it as interest received.

How does MetLife pay death benefits?

Each beneficiary needs to submit a claim form in order to get paid. MetLife will pay each beneficiary their proceeds separately as they receive the required claim documents from each of them. They don’t require all beneficiaries to make a claim before making payment to each individual.
