About Murphy

Murphy was born in a suburb of New York City. When he was a child, his family moved to a suburb of Hartford, Connecticut, where his father had a legal partnership. In 1996 he earned bachelor’s degrees in history and in political science from Williams College, with a year of study abroad at the University of Oxford.

Chris Murphy has dedicated his career to serving the people of Connecticut. Elected to the Senate in 2012, Chris is a leading voice fighting to create jobs, make sure all Americans have good health care they can afford, and keep our kids safe from gun violence.

A member of the Democratic Party, he previously served in the United States House of Representatives, representing Connecticut’s 5th congressional district from 2007 to 2013.
